Litter Picking Success – September 2020

Keeping Tideswell & District Tidy –

What is the strangest bit of litter you could expect to find on a TDEG litter pick? Check our photos for the answer!

We had a great turnout and wonderful weather for the TDEG contribution to the Great British September Clean (postponed from the usual Spring Clean) on Sunday 13 September.  Two separate groups tackled litter left along roads and green spaces around Litton and Tideswell.  Organisers, Steve Elliott and Katherine Duffy Clarke, thanked Derbyshire Dales DC for providing litter-picking equipment and removing the many bags of rubbish collected.

Surprisingly, much of the litter collected appeared to be coffee cups, drinks cans and cigarette packets, probably thrown from passing vehicles. But we also collected a disposable BBQ (even after all the recent publicity warning about the dangers of these items), and even a small surf board! TDEG’s litter picking group hopes to increase its anti-littering campaigning shortly.

The Tideswell team raring to go!
70 miles from the sea - an unusual bit of litter.
Our Litton team are all geared up (with help from a four legged friend)
Steve - with the fruits of our labours!
