We have set up a Hedgehog Project to help our local hedgehogs survive and thrive. The aims of the project are:
- To monitor local population numbers by recording sightings in Tideswell and the surrounding area.
- To encourage our current hedgehog population to thrive by sharing information with local residents.

Have you seen a hedgehog this year?
Please send any sightings or evidence of hedgehogs in Tideswell and our surrounding communities to TDEG’s new Hedgehog Champion, Jane. Jane is a local resident and member of TDEG with a passion for these friendly mammals.

Jane would like to hear about sightings either in your garden, on local roads and paths, or anywhere in the local area. Sightings could be of living or deceased animals; signs such as poo, footprints, or hogs hibernating in nests; or evidence of feeding and sounds (mainly during the mating season). Please provide as much information as you can in your email, including the site location and the time of your sighting. Jane will be interested in all the details.
Hedgehog Sightings in 2026
The map indicates where all hedgehog sightings and other evidence of hedgehog activity have been seen in 2026. Sightings are marked as ‘live’ or ‘deceased’. Evidence of hedgehogs, such as tracks or poo, are marked as ‘signs’.
You can zoom in to see your area in more detail, or pan around to check surrounding communities. If you hover over each hedgehog icon, it will tell you if this is a live sighting or some other evidence of the animals in that area in 2026. Locations are quite approximate, as it is difficult to pinpoint sightings by addresses alone. If you feel we have not recorded your sighting accurately enough, just let us know and we can amend it.
(If you are looking at the map on a touch screen – a phone or a laptop, for example – you can zoom in or out by pinching your fingers on the map. You can also pan around by clicking on and dragging the map around. On a computer screen, you can use your mouse scrolling button to zoom in or out, and also click and drag to pan around.)
